John Langford, Ph.D.
Dr. John Langford is the President and CEO of Panoptes. John is also Chairman and CEO of Aurora Flight Sciences. Dr. Langford founded Aurora 25 years ago with a focus on unmanned aerial vehicles. Today, Aurora lays claim to over 50 designs and prototypes of unmanned aerial vehicles, and has leveraged its in-house composites manufacturing capabilities required to build its UAVs to expand into composite airframe manufacturing for military, civil, and commercial manned aircraft.
Langford co-founded Athena Technologies in 1998 and served as CEO and Chairman. Athena was sold to Rockwell Collins in 2008. Dr. Langford has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, most recently being honored in 2014 with the National Aeronautics Association (NAA) Cliff Henderson Trophy for “significant and lasting contributions to the promotion and advancement of aviation and aerospace in the United States.”
Langford is a Fellow in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a Fellow in the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). He has served on numerous national advisory boards and study panels, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). He received an SB in Aeronautics, an SM in Aeronautics & Astronautics, an SM in Defense Policy, and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Public Policy from MIT.
